When Will It Get Better?

I've been in remission - if we want to call it that - for nearly a year now and I thought I'd be feeling back to my old self by now. Many ways things are getting worse - more health problems keep cropping up and everyone else expects me to be cheerful and grateful for my survival. I don't feel that at all. Does it get better?

This is very common, we expect life to return to what it was like before the cancer diagnosis. But for many, the reality is that the impact of cancer doesn’t suddenly stop once we’re in remission. For many, cancer changes them. Allow yourself time and patience to adjust to these changes.

How could others support you? If everyone else expects you to be cheerful and grateful, gently explain to them how you’re feeling and how they could support you.

Ask yourself, what would you like to see happen? When you have answered this, write down one action that you can do in the next 2 weeks that will get you closer to this.  Please feel free to share you action with us here.

Focus on the present. Listen to your body and do things at your own pace.
