Environmental Policy

Life after Cancer brings people together who have finished cancer treatment to form support groups, with an aim to increase their physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing.
At Life after Cancer, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and integrating sustainability into the way we work.We prioritise digital-first processes, aim for mindful environmental event planning, and make responsible sourcing decisions wherever possible. This commitment is part of our core strategy, and we review our policy annually to support continuous improvement.
We aim to comply, where possible, with relevant UK environmental legislation and take guidance from ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) framework and the UK Government Net Zero strategy. We are committed to improving our practices to reduce waste, energy use and our carbon footprint over time.
This environmental policy outlines the measures that Life after Cancer will take to embed sustainability into how we function as a business.
The specific aims of the Life after Cancer Environmental policy are as follows:
-
To carry out our work in an efficient way that minimises or eliminates its adverse impact on our environment.
-
Eliminate the generation of waste and reuse or recycle as much of it as possible.
-
As far as possible purchase products and services that minimise damage to the environment.
-
Assess the environmental impact of any business changes we intend to introduce in advance.
-
Ensure that all employees understand our environmental policy and contribute to achieving high standards.
Actions taken by Life after Cancer to ensure our environmental objectives are fulfilled:
-
Where feasible, we will set annual objectives and measure progress toward reducing our environmental impact, particularly regarding energy use, waste, and carbon footprint.
-
We've digitised most of our processes, thereby minimising energy usage and reducing paper waste.
-
We minimise face-to-face meetings between ourselves and our service users, offering virtual meetings and conference calls via Zoom in order to reduce transportation impact.
-
Our aim is that bulk printed marketing material will be sourced, where possible, from local commercial printers with clear environmental policies.
-
We aim to reduce the amount of waste diverted to landfill by increasing recycling.
-
We assess the environmental policies of venues, caterers, and suppliers in advance of all events, giving preference to those with demonstrably sustainable practices (e.g. recycling, renewable energy use, local sourcing).
-
Our invoicing and payments are made digitally to help minimise transportation requirements and paper usage.
-
We will encourage our service users and collaborators to adopt environmentally conscious behaviours when attending events, such as using public transport, bringing reusable water bottles, or accessing digital rather than printed materials.
