Episode 10

Things we don't say out loud after cancer

This episode is about the things we don't say out loud after cancer treatment. Steph is joined by Sophia Javeri to talk about the quiet pressure that can follow treatment - the pressure to be okay, fear of burdening others and the thoughts that can feel difficult to say out loud.

Sophia shares why she often kept her thoughts to herself and the conversations she wishes she'd had with friends and family. Together, they discuss managing fear of recurrence, adjusting expectations, living with lower energy and the mindset shifts and practical changes that helped Sophia through difficult days.

The conversation also looks at the small acts of support that made the biggest difference to her and how friends and family can help someone feel seen, understood and less alone.

Together they explore the things many people experience after cancer but rarely say out loud:

• The fear that can linger after treatment
• Why "I'm fine" often isn't the whole truth
• Grieving the person you were before cancer
• The pressure to feel grateful all the time
• Why treatment ending can feel surprisingly unsettling

• How friends and family can truly support someone after cancer

We hope this conversation helps you feel a little less alone in the thoughts you may have been carrying quietly. And if you're supporting someone after cancer, you'll come away with a better understanding of their experience and practical ideas for how to support them.
