Episode 09
Rebuilding your identity, relationships
and life after cancer
"I didn't realise how misaligned I was. I had to figure out what was right for me."
In this episode, Steph is joined by Georgina Mavris, who is six years post breast cancer treatment, to explore how cancer can change your identity, relationships and sense of purpose. Together, they discuss the transition from active treatment to everyday life, why so many people feel different afterwards, and how to begin making sense of what comes next.
Georgina shares her experience of returning to work, feeling as though everyone expected life to go back to normal, and gradually realising that the life she wanted after cancer looked different. She talks about rethinking relationships, discovering what mattered most to her and the small steps that helped her move forward.
In this episode, we discuss:
• Why life after treatment can feel harder than expected
• Returning to work when everyone thinks you're "back to normal"
• The impact cancer can have on friendships and relationships
• Why asking "What do you need from me?" can make such a difference
• Giving yourself time to work out what really matters
• Finding purpose after cancer and redefining what a meaningful life looks like
• One simple step you can take if you're feeling unsure about what comes next
Whether you're adjusting to life after treatment, questioning what matters most or trying to find your place again, this episode offers an honest conversation about identity, purpose and moving forward at your own pace.
